What is single-origin chocolate?

Single-origin chocolate is made from cacao grown in one country, region, or even one estate — as opposed to blends that mix beans from several sources for consistency. Like single-vineyard wine, the point is expressing a place: Madagascar's berry acidity, Venezuela's nutty depth, Ghana's classic cocoa richness.

Our catalog covers 23 origin countries, from Ecuador (277 bars) to Costa Rica (43), each with a distinct flavor signature you can compare in our origin guides. If you've only had blended chocolate, a side-by-side of two origins at the same percentage is the fastest way to taste what 'terroir' means.
